EMERGENCIES

1. Fixing and Assembling of Tents

In the aftermath of the devastating conflict in Somaliland, a massive influx of over 91,000 refugees sought protection in Ethiopia, being resettled in the Marqaan area. Our organization, SEE in partnership with RRS, assembled about 4000 family tents to house the refugees in the Mirqaan site. Efforts were directed at providing a safe, comfortable, and livable space for the refugees who sought protection.

2. Construction of Communal Hangars

In order to create communal spaces for social practice and administrative requirements, SEE, in collaboration with RRS completed the construction of 30 communal hangars at the Mirqaan camp as of May 31, 2023. The hangars serve as crucial structures to support the formation of a structured refugee community.

3. Construction of Emergency Shelters

Our organization responded to the dire need for the refugees from lasano state, by establishing registration centers, national screening centers, guardhouses, and emergency latrines in the Marqaan camp. These strategic structures serve as important elements in crisis management and emergency response.

4. Site Development and Road Access

In addition to housing facilities, SEE also initiated a large-scale site development project to improve the overall living conditions in the refugee settlement. The project which also includes access road creation, is currently under progress. This aspect of our work ensures that the refugees have a well-structured area that facilitates easier movement and living conditions.

5. Distribution of Core Relief Items

Understanding the immediate needs of the refugees, SEE distributed Core Relief Items (CRIs) to approximately 985 households. This significant distribution effort helped address the immediate needs of the displaced population, offering them much-needed essentials at a critical time.

6. WASH Activities in the Emergency Context

in collaboration with RRS, we focused on the provision of WASH activities in the emergency setting like water tracking and emergency latrine construction. We’ve facilitated and delivered around 2,570,000 litres of water via 257 trips to the refugees from both Bookh and Mirqaan. With the construction of 8 twin-structure emergency latrines, we aimed to enhance the sanitation facilities in the camp.
