Integration of environment with livelihood improvement

Lack of supplies, resources or saleable skills among refugees is resulting in environmental
damage through natural resource extraction. Absence of alternative household energy source has
forced refugees to purchase or collect firewood. Refugees are not assisted with adequate shelter
and fencing materials, which forced them to purchase or collect these items. The refugee
population increased the demand for firewood, and construction materials, which are sourced
from natural vegetation.
Hence, while production and distribution of fuel wood stoves and charcoal briquettes from
Prosophis directly helps to reduce pressure on natural vegetation, integration and linkage of all
intervention of SEE with livelihood activities help to ensure sustainability of the projects.
